News & Media

StandBy recognises that the suicide prevention and mental health sectors play an important role in safely communicating about suicide to the Australian public.

When communicating about suicide it’s important to present accurate and safe information to reduce harm and risk on vulnerable audiences.

StandBy acknowledges that suicide is a topic of legitimate public interest for the media to cover, and advocates for the use of the Mindframe guidelines when communicating about suicide.

The Mindframe Guidelines are available here.

StandBy’s Safe Language video can be viewed here. This video provides a brief guideline to safe language when communicating around the topic of suicide.
