Lived Experience Advisory Group

Marcus Pattie, Tasmania

I lost my Dad to suicide when I was young.  I am now ready to talk to people about suicide and help reduce the suicide rate in Australia.  Suicide does not get spoken about enough in mainstream Australia and it deserves more attention.

I want suicide to stop being a taboo subject, not speaking about suicide can be tragic.  I think more education is needed and I’d like to contribute towards that.

What would you like to see the group achieve?

I see this lived experience group as a part of a new movement that is considerate to those with lived experience and understands the benefits of their input.

What have you gained by taking part?

Since joining I have learned about other people’s experiences with suicide and it’s given me so many different perspectives. The people I have met will always be special to me and we will continue to grow together.

What would you like the public to know about suicide?

I want people to understand that it’s ok to talk about suicide, so start today.
