Lived Experience Advisory Group

Emma Knapp, Victoria

I lost my son Andy in 2013 and since then have been working in suicide prevention and postvention in unpaid and now a paid role to help others who have been affected by suicide

What would you like to see the group achieve?

I would like for the voice and experience of the group to influence the care of others who have been bereaved by suicide and ensure their journey is made easier by a service, that has the living experience of the impact suicide grief has on people.

What have you gained by taking part?

Being part of the group has taught me so much about my own grief, by sharing and knowing our stories I have heard things and found people from all over Australia that I have connected to.

What would you like the public to know about suicide?

That people bereaved by suicide need to connect to others to heal, by not talking about it we lose that chance to reconnect and make our way back to friends and family through our grief.
