StandBy Support After Suicide has developed a Lived Experience Framework that leads to tangible actions and outcomes

At StandBy Support After Suicide lived experience refers to those who have their own personal experience of being bereaved by suicide.

The Lived Experience Framework provides the foundation to guide, support and progress lived experience engagement and participation within StandBy.

The intended audience for the Framework is primarily staff and management working across the StandBy program to guide and inform their work. However, it also offers an important opportunity for people with lived experience and the partners and communities we work with to hold us accountable on our commitments, as well as modelling a commitment to lived experience engagement and participation that we hope to see more broadly across systems and services.

Our commitments

  1. Leadership, governance and strategy
  2. Consultation and co-design
  3. Lived experience-led service delivery
  4. Lived Experience Workforce development
  5. Organisational commitment
  6. Evaluation and learning

Lived experience engagement and participation at StandBy will contribute to:

  • Embracing the input of those with lived experience in a jointly owned national governance structure
  • Increasing and diversifying StandBy’s service offering
  • Delivering contemporary, quality and consistent support after suicide
  • Increasing national awareness and achieving a genuine national presence as the leader in support after suicide
  • Increasing community capacity, connection and resilience through person-centred support and whole-of community responses

StandBy recognises and honours the continued contribution of those with a lived experience of suicide bereavement. The courage, insight and wisdom of these unique experiences, strengthens the work that we do.
