StandBy National Expansion

Increased investment from the Australian Government Department of Health is enabling StandBy to work towards providing all Australians with universal and equitable access to postvention.

Current expansion also sees StandBy leading the NSW Post Suicide Support initiative (NSW PSS), a NSW Ministry of Health ‘Towards Zero Suicides’ initiative, in partnership with Jesuit Social Services, Roses in the Ocean and the University of New England. NSW state-wide coverage will be achieved through the NSW PSS alongside the Commonwealth funded program.

Preferred Partner Structure

StandBy has established a preferred partner structure as a foundation for continued growth towards national coverage. The tighter strategic list of preferred partners has a number of significant benefits associated with this evolution in the StandBy Model including:

Improved consistency
Fit for purpose partnership, commissioning, and management frameworks (aligned with best practice) for enhancing the coordination and integration of service provision, which reduces fragmentation and duplication

Increased scalability
A flexible framework tailored to national expansion which addresses complexity and relative risk, while maintaining local front-line services across the majority of service areas delivering community ownership and local knowledge

Greater manageability
Providing greater accountability and reduction of time consuming administrative tasks whilst increasing efficacy of skills and experiences of the existing StandBy National and Partner workforces including digital innovation, resource development and research opportunities

Improved efficiencies
Partners will deliver consistency and value through redistributing resources which also enhances sector integration and capacity, and better alignment to state initiatives/strategies as well as whole-of-government approaches

Risk mitigation
Maintaining or selecting the best performing, innovative and sustainable Partners in each state and territory will mitigate the risks of preserving local ownership, consistency of local service delivery including preservation of knowledgeable and experienced staff and maintain established networks while enhancing sector integration
